Weekend Reset Routine

A few months ago, I re-entered the workforce and started working a corporate job as a Team Relations Specialist (which is just a fun way to say Human Resources Manager).

Working a full-time job, has shaken up my day to day routine, but the weekend offers great opportunity, to cleanse, ground, and recharge my environment and energy.

Now, I actually enjoy cleaning our home and decorating our space to feel cozy and peaceful. However, throughout the week, I realize I don’t always have to capacity to tackle the chores— but just enough to take a hot bath and a sip of wine, to decompress from the day.

With it being the winter, I am deep in my hermit mood. The only place I want to be on the weekends is at home.

This weekend has become the inspiration of this piece; so I would like to offer you a little insight on how I reset each weekend to be able to show up fully in my work week.

FRIDAY

For me, the weekend begins on Friday night when I step foot in the house.

My Friday night whine down routine is essential for my energy and aura. Now I will admit, Astrology and symbolism plays a significant role in my reset routine. It’s all about working with the energy not against it.

In the astrological system, Friday is ruled by the planet Venus. Venus is feminine, sensual. glamorous, and expressive. How Venus shows up for me, is on the cusps of my natal third and fourth houses.

While Friday’s are typically date night, during the winter—my husband and I like to stay inside. Once I’m home from work, I shower to wash off the day.

Me and water go together real bad, so whether I choose to soak in a bath or rest under a steamy shower, I can feel my nervous system relaxing. My shoulders dropping and my lungs expanding.

After I shower, I slip on something that feels good on my skin and flows as I roam through the house.

This is either my robe or this real comfy dress that I wear around the house, while still feeling cute and stylish.

I pour a glass a wine or make me a quick cocktail —while we decide on dinner. On Fridays, I don’t like to cook all the time. So most scenarios, we get some carry out and watch our favorite shows and just talk.

Fridays are how shift gears from my weekday mindset to embracing the fullness of the weekend reset.

SATURDAY

Waking up on a Saturday is definitely a slow process. I like to take my time, remind myself there’s no need to think about anything other than how good it feels to be wrapped up in our quilts and blankets.

Saturday is my personal Holy day. It’s the day I truly prioritize my domestic tasks, like laundry, grocery shopping, dusting, mopping, etc.

Even though It’s the weekend I’m still up pretty early. While I prepare my tea/coffee for the morning. I start laundry almost immediately.

Typically laundry is a full day task, so the earlier I start the higher the chance all the loads will be washed, folded and put away.

Saturday is also the day I clean and reset my ancestral altar. I just restarted my altar work practice from taking nearly a year away to digest all that I’d learned and experienced doing altar work.

This past Saturday, I pulled out my tools and cleaned off the altar space I have in the kitchen with my plants. Saturdays have always been my favorite day for ritual work. Saturday, while ruled by the planet Saturn, supports spiritual discipline. I do floor washes and I also smudge all windows and entry ways in our home.

Saturday can easily feel like another work day, if you don’t enjoy tasks like deep cleaning and grocery shopping. Saturday is a full day where I hoodoo everything.

What I mean by that is, I recognize the magick in these simple yet important task. It’s said that “cleanliness is next to godliness” and I am a firm believer that when you do cook, clean, or do anything with intention and prayer, you create exactly what you desire.

Saturday is the day I do the practical and spiritual work that will support my energy in the week ahead.

I always cook on Saturdays.

There’s nothing like eating a good home cooked meal in a clean house. Nothing can beat that level of abundance. It’s such a grounding experience, most people can take for granted.

I wash the dishes and cuddle on the couch with hubs and the dog to end the day, before getting into bed.

SUNDAY

I rise on Sunday with one goal in mind, relax. The only task I prioritize on Sunday is washing our bedding and watching football with my husband.

Sunday’s are the ultimate day for rest and relaxation. It can often feel like more of a freestyle, navigating the day.

Essentially, I let my energy guide me on how to plan the day. If I have the energy, I will invite family over or even go and visit them. However, during the winter, I’m usually at home.

It’s easy for Sunday’s to feel boring if you’re used to always being on the go. What I’ve started to do on Sunday’s is set time aside to write and share with you.

I’ve re-framed my perception of this space, as a place I want to share on, instead of the pressure of “needing” to share.

With simple shift in my perception has inspired so many pieces I will be sharing soon.

I’m thankful for the ability to keep my Sunday’s spacious and open for me to freely focus on what comes easy to me (drawing, writing, dancing, one-on-one time with my husband).

Astrologically, Sunday’s are ruled by the Sun. The sun energy is about warmth, fun, play, connection and togetherness. While in the summer it’s feels easier to have access to sun like energy and events; in the winter I think it’s important to focus that time on the activities that warm you up inside.

While my natal Sun lights up my third house, it feels right on brand to take time to write and express myself boldly on Sundays.

My whine down routine for Sunday, is centered around setting my personal intentions for the week. I sort of plan out my work attire for the week and lunch menu. While I’m not a meal planner, I like to have an idea of what I’d want to eat for lunch through out the week.

I make a point to get in bed by 9:45 PM.

That way when my alarm goes off Monday morning at 5:15 AM, I feel rested, recharged and ready for the day.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I felt like I should share this process because I get a lot of questions (mostly from family) on how I am able to remain calm, cool and collected during the week or when life can feel it’s pushing you back.

It’s truly in the magick of my rituals and routines. Not just what I do to remain grounded and poised, but the why behind it. I don’t just make up our bed each day because it looks good. I am laying to rest the previous day and stepping into another.

When I shower or bathe, it’s not just to clean the dirt and oils from my body, it’s to connect with water and re-balance my nervous system. As a truly sensitive human being, I absorb energy all day every day when I’m out in the world and at work.

My rituals and routines support the process of calling my energy back to me and release energy that is not mine to carry.

Your process doesn’t have to take this shape, but it should be a healthy and sustainable practice that evolves with you as you shift and change through life.
